Ms. Jackson gave the group a report on the status of ISO 9735, Parts 1 through 10. The voting results and the ISO progress matrix were mailed in May to members. The ballot period on Parts 1, 2, 3 and 8 ended on 31 May 97 and all were approved. Canada disapproved but the essence of their disapproval was not on the content of the document but the procedures and scope. Ms. Jackson has an electronic copy of the complete comments, voting and responses from the editing committee, and can provide it by email to those who wish to have it.
Changes were made on the basis of the comments, and Ms. Jackson has electronic copies of the changed documents. Remaining to be done is a vote for DIS on those Parts. It will be sent out by ISO Central Secretariat.
Parts 5 and 6 have been approved for ballot, ending 1 October 1997. The editing meeting to review the comments has been scheduled to be the week before Christmas in Berlin. Ms. Jackson has not yet received a copy of the comments.
Parts 4, 7, and 10 were up for approval by CEFACT in their September 1997 meeting to move into the ISO fast-track approval process, but Part 10 was not accepted. Parts 4 and 7 are up for ballot at the February TAG meeting.
4.2 A motion was made, seconded, and opened for discussion that ISO/TC 154 U.S. TAG approve ISO 9735 Part 9. The motion was unanimously approved.
5. Old Business
Ms. Sandra Paul, liaison to SC30, reported that the Business Team Pilot Project on Electronic Commerce (BT-EC) was JTC1s approach for the fast development of standards. The project leader is Mr. Ulrich Hartmann (Siemens AG, Germany). Mr. Paul Levine and Ms. Paul had volunteered to participate, but the scope of work for the Business Team was limited to individuals interacting with companies and did not include business-to-business transactions. Ms. Paul did not feel that their work applies to X12 work.
Mr. Levine and Ms. Paul jointly submitted the AC.1 Reference Guide - The Next Generation of UN/EDIFACT to the BT-EC because it contains a catalog model. The BT-EC is conducting an open meeting in Atlanta on 13-14 November, 1997. For those interested, the BT-EC maintains a web site at <http://www.din.de/gremien/frame/de/ni/aktuell/j1btechtml>.
Mr. Dan Codman reported that X12C/TG6 has continued, but varying, support of the ISO 9735 security sections.
Ms. Paul, liaison to SC30 TAG, reported the JTC 1/SC30 committee has been officially disbanded due to action taken by the JTC 1 Plenary in Ottawa, and the work will fall under a new group, SC32 Data Management Services. The U.S. SC30 TAG is pro tem until an SC32 structure is established. SC30 TAG is still working to get the Basic Semantic Repository project (BSR) under the jurisdiction of the TC 154. As she reported in June, 1997, the ISO management group extended the BSR activity until December 1997.
As part of ASC X12s continuing efforts to bring all of the U.S. EDI
standards activities under one body, the X12 leadership has incorporated
support for the TC 154 U.S. TAG into the X12 annual budget as of the fiscal
year beginning July 1, 1997. X12 will cover the administrative costs and
ANSI fees for the U.S. TAG. Under this new funding scenario, the following
conditions will apply for membership in the U.S. TAG for TC 154:
2. To apply for membership, you must
3. To be a member of the U.S. delegation to international meetings, you must be a member of the TAG or their designee and have attended 2 of the previous 3 regularly scheduled meetings.
4. Members are subject to removal if three consecutive meetings are missed.
There being no further business before the group, Ms. Jackson adjourned the meeting at 7:00 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Gaile L. Spadin
ISO/TC 154 U.S. TAG Administrator
