About

Association Data Standards Consortium (ADSC)

The Association Data Standards Consortium is a forum for identifying and communicating the process, information, and technology standards that facilitate seamless, efficient electronic business integration for associations and the for-profit businesses that serve them. ADSC is working through the X12 organization to develop standards

The Association Data Standards Consortium uses the term "association" broadly, to include any non-profit member-centric organization or donor-based charity or foundation. Examples include but are not limited to: trade associations, professional societies, public foundations, philanthropic organizations, chambers of commerce, unions, fraternal organizations, and similar organizations.

Getting Involved

The best way to get involved is to subscribe to the ADSC discussion list. Meetings announcements and other messages are delivered via this list. To subscribe, send an e-mail to lyris@listman.disa.org and 'join adsc' without the quotes in the body of the message. New subscribers must be approved before they can post. This is usually done by list administrators within one business day of signing up.

VISION

Association Data Standards Consortium Standards will be the global electronic standards for the association community and its for-profit partners.

Guiding Principles

  • Open forum for the development of association information exchange standards.
  • Involve all participants and partners in the global community to actively participate in the standards development process, including: primary software and third- party software add-on developers, value-added service providers, consultants, and other association professionals.
  • Broadly and frequently communicate with our industry
  • Leverage the work of others through using existing recognized data standards, where possible
  • The specifications and standards developed by the body will be made available for use free of charge to the association community and the development and dissemination of these standards will not serve as a for profit tool by the body or its participants
  • Enlist the most qualified people to lead and participate in our organization
  • Continually assess our value proposition and performance
  • Recruit and maintain a diverse membership
  • Use a tiered approach so that standards that could potentially benefit the largest number of associations are developed before those with a more limited application.

Scope

  • To develop and promote standards, specifications, and recommended practices, that will facilitate implementation of electronic business among associations, their members, customers, suppliers, service providers, regulatory agencies, federal, state, and local governments, and any other organizations that exchange standard business documents and data with associations.
  • To conduct activities to promote the use of developed standards. Activities could include investigations, studies, events or publications which are useful and valuable to the community.
  • To keep abreast of electronic business directions, strategies, and proposed standards and conventions across industries; and leverage well-formed electronic business standards successfully implemented by companies and organizations, regardless of their industry.
  • To cooperate and collaborate with other regional, national and international groups involved in electronic business, and establish and maintain liaison with other professional, governmental, and business groups or organizations.
  • To undertake such other functions consistent with these purposes, that advance the efficiency, success, and standing of the association community.
