Designated Standard Maintenance Organization. An organization, designated by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, to maintain standards adopted under HIPAA. The following organizations serve as DSMOs: ASC X12; Dental Content Committee; Health Level Seven; The National Council for Prescription Drug Programs; National Uniform Billing Committee (NUBC); and National Uniform Claim Committee (NUCC).

Electronic Business XML. A suite of specifications for conducting business over the Internet. CICA incorporates ebXML Core Components Technical Specification, Part 8 of the ebXML framework.

Electronic Data Interchange. A set of standardized formats for the computer-to-computer exchange of business documents.

United States Technical Advisory Group. U.S. TAGs are established via ANSI for ISO activities, and as noted on the ISO Web site "to advise on matters of basic, sectoral and cross-sectoral coordination, coherent planning and the needs for new work."

The World Wide Web Consortium. Develops common protocols that drive the World Wide Web's evolution and interoperability.
